Suzanne Elizabeth Innes-Stubb is a British-Finnish attorney, academic professional, and the current spouse of the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. Early Life and Education
Suzanne Innes was born on 25 January 1970 in Solihull, England. Her upbringing was grounded in education and public service, as both of her parents were teachers. Her mother hailed from Essex, and her father had Scottish roots. The family maintained ties to rural life through a longstanding family farm near Stansted Airport, still operated by her brothers.

From an early age, Innes displayed academic versatility, particularly in languages and law. She studied law, French, and German at the University of Surrey and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992. Driven by her passion for European affairs, she proceeded to enroll at the prestigious College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, where she earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in European Union Law in 1995.

Professional Career
Innes-Stubb’s professional journey began in Brussels, where she joined the prominent international law firm White & Case in 1999. Her legal expertise quickly gained recognition, and when her family relocated to Finland, she continued her career with the firm’s Helsinki office, integrating into the Nordic legal landscape.

In 2014, she transitioned into corporate law, assuming the role of Head of Legal at Sanoma, one of Finland’s largest media groups. Her experience in navigating complex legal frameworks in international and media law made her a valuable asset. She later joined KONE Corporation, a global leader in elevator and escalator manufacturing, where she rose to become Head of Global Compliance. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing ethical and legal compliance across KONE’s global operations, demonstrating her leadership in corporate governance and international business law.

In March 2024, Innes-Stubb stepped down from her role at KONE to pursue a new professional chapter in academia. She is slated to begin a new position at Aalto University in September 2024, continuing her influence in the fields of law and business education.

Role as First Lady of Finland
As the wife of President Alexander Stubb, Suzanne Innes-Stubb assumed the role of First Lady of Finland upon his inauguration. Her international background and professional accomplishments brought a fresh perspective to the role. While Finland has seen presidential spouses with foreign origins in the past—most notably Gustaf Mannerheim’s Russian-born wife—Innes-Stubb is the first to actively serve as First Lady while not being born Finnish.

They have two children, born in 2001 and 2004.

The Stubb family resides in Westend, a coastal district in Espoo, Finland.
